Introduction

Firmware Update allows over-the-air firmware upgrades to be issued and downloaded to devices in the field via the cloud. Firmware update allows to fix bugs and introduce new features to deployed devices.

Meshtech BLE devices support one or more of the following methods for upgrading; Download, Broadcast, Nordic DFU and BLE SMP.

Download or Broadcast are the preferred and easiest method for upgrade in most cases, and can be performed with minimal down-time as only a short reboot is needed when applying the new version. However, in some situations Firmware Update using Download or Broadcast through a Meshtech network might not be possible or the most convenient. In such cases, devices can be upgraded using nRF Connect for Mobile app from Nordic Semiconductor utilizing Nordic DFU or BLE SMP.
